If it only feels like yesterday that the Christmas decorations were strung up, advent calendar doors were gleefully torn open and the pets took a sudden fascination with destroying wrapping paper, we can completely empathise.

2014 has absolutely flown by for us here at Brightwater Lakes caravan parks in Mid Wales and it’s been another stellar year. We’ve seen many amazing people come and go, a few fresh faces around the grounds and one or two quintessential examples of Welsh rain. Now it’s time to look forward to 2015 and what better way to kick things off than with the local turning on of the Christmas lights?

Pressing a big button to turn on the dazzling lights of Christmas is a significant time for any area and it’s exactly like that in our local village of Welshpool. With its long-standing traditions and beautiful architecture to admire, there’s only one place to be on Friday the 5th of December.

It’s more than just a case of watching the lights going on and then returning home – there’s also some entertainment to be enjoyed! Christmas just isn’t Christmas without the big man himself, so the children will be delighted to see Santa taking requests on the streets of Welshpool during the evening.

That’s not all there is to enjoy during this special occasion, there will be also be a fascinating market village complete with plenty of stalls from local producers. If you’re looking to find something a little bit different for the stocking this year, one of the many great crafts you’re likely to find here will be a great option.

Before the lights even come on, there will be a brilliant fancy dress competition that the kids are bound to love. There could be no better excuse for them to unleash their creative side and with less than a day to prepare, they best get their thinking caps on.

In anticipation of the lights being switched on, you can take part in in the procession from the village Tourism Information Office at 6.55pm and then watch on as the big button is pressed just 5 minutes later.
