Plas y Brenin is the National Mountain Sports Centre –a great place to start for those without any adventure sport experience. Nestled in the heart of Snowdonia is the small village of Capel Curig, where Plas y Brenin is based – a beautiful spot that makes for the perfect start to an exciting venture.

Plas y Brenin offer a huge range of adventure courses that are now running throughout July, including Canoeing, Kayaking, and Rock Climbing for beginners. Additional courses are also available for the more experienced venturer if you prefer a further challenge. With some of the most experienced and skilled instructors in Britain, you will feel safe and secure while you enjoy the exhilaration of adventure sports. Learning an adventure sport can be a wonderful start to something new– so give it a go!

For families, there is the perfect option of family taster days, which provide a fun and exciting experience for both kids and parents. These begin running from the 23rd July through to the 29th August, with either a full day/half day’s adventure available. Whether you want to learn the art of rock climbing, abseiling, how to paddle a canoe, or even how to simply stand on a wakeboard, Plas y Brenin provides it all.

Snowdon itself makes for another exciting day out this summer. The largest mountain in Wales, Snowdon stands at 1085 metres and offers stunning panoramic views of Snowdonia on a clear day. With numerous different paths with numerous required levels of experience, ascending Snowdon can be a great day out for any individual or family. Be prepared for an amazing sense of achievement felt upon reaching the peak! For those wishing for an alternative to walking, the Snowdon Mountain Railway is the perfect solution, offering you the brilliant view with the addition of a comfortable seat. So, either way, ascending Snowdon is a must.

Upon reaching the peak you are given the opportunity to relax in the UK’s highest café – where you may enjoy a Welsh cream tea or hot, tasty ‘Oggie’. Don’t forget to get a souvenir to remember your visit to the highest mountain in Wales and England in the nearby gift shop!

For the more avid adventurer looking for yet a more stimulating challenge, this July also marks the beginning of numerous Snowdon events and races, including the renowned International Snowdon Race, the Snowdonia Trail Marathon and the Snowdonia Triathlon Festival. Be sure not to miss out!
