Choosing to stay in holiday parks in Mid Wales for your holidays is a great way to see the fantastic and famed Welsh landscape, with its traditional towns and villages. Brightwater Lakes Holiday Park is a 10 minute drive from Welshpool, a charming market town situated on the England and Wales border. There’s a fantastic range of things to see and do in Welshpool, and with Christmas on the way, there’s a few wonderful festive events organised which aren’t to be missed.

Powis Castle is situated near Welshpool, and is going to be a host for a number of festive activities this year. This National Trust property is recognisable by its red exterior, and is also known as ‘Castell Coch’ in Welsh – which as you might have guessed, translates to ‘Red Castle’.

Father Christmas Grotto

Father Christmas has decided to set up his grotto within Powis Castle this year, and you are cordially invited to visit him whilst he listens to everyone’s Christmas list requests!

Children will receive a small Christmas gift from Father Christmas himself, as well as vouchers for a Christmas cookie and a drink which can be redeemed within the castle restaurant.

Booking for this event is essential, as the opening day has already sold out! This event will be taking place between the 26th November and the 18th of December. The grotto will be open between 11am and 4pm on these days.

As this is a National Trust event, an admission fee of £6.50 per child is required. All admission fee proceeds contribute to the continuation of conservation work at Powis Castle.

Illuminated Gardens

Take a delightful stroll through the formal gardens and courtyard of Powis Castle, which has been spectacularly illuminated for the festive season.

During this event, the courtyard restaurant and Christmas Shop within the castle will remain open until 8pm, a great chance to do a bit of festive shopping in a beautiful setting!

This is a free event for National Trust Members. For those without a membership, the admission costs range between £2.60 and £5.20. Additional information on admission prices can be found on the event page.

The Illuminated Gardens event takes place between the 25th November and the 11th of December, between the hours of 5pm and 8.30pm

Wreath-making Workshop

A local florist will be visiting Powis Castle to teach you how to craft your own beautiful Christmas wreath. All materials are included within the workshop price, which costs £20. Authentic Christmas wreaths are typically more expensive than this, and having it personally crafted is a wonderful bonus – especially if you plan on giving it as a gift.

The wreath-making workshop will be taking place in the courtyard restaurant on 30th November (1.30pm – 4pm) and 7th December (1:30pm – 4pm). As usual, booking is required for this event.
Ballroom Carol Service

Embrace traditional Christmas festivities and visit the annual carol concert in Powis Castle. The service will take place on Saturday, 10th December 2016 (7pm-8pm) within the fantastic ballroom.
Admission prices for this event are £4.50 per child and £9.00 per adult.
